Over the period of last six months, I was continuously (several times throughout the day) monitoring website visitors to my website.

I have also implemented a click counter system on my website to track exact download and buy now clicks. This is one of the best things I have ever done (adding a click counter). It gives me the correct conversion (visit to download / buy rate) as opposed to the Google Analytics bounce rate which is nearly incorrect many times. For many visits, it has a zero visit time although visitor was present for at leat 4-5 seconds and downloaded stuff from the website.

As you can see in the above Analytics report and my click counter report, it shows 39 unique visits with 89% bounce rate where as my click log (the image is not complete, see the count at the bottom of image) shows the download count of 24 and buy count 5 which indicates that the bounce rate is much lesser than that of Google Analytics. Strange ! Do you have any thoughts?

I used to entirely depend on the Analytics report before implementing the click counter on my website. Now I use combination of Google Analytics report and My click counter reports to exactly find out the click conversion rate.

If your website offers something to download or purchase then you should have a click tracking system implemented which should give you date wise and product wise report of clicks.

Google Analytics is a great tool but it should be used wisely and you should not rely entirely on it.

I have shared my thoughts based entirely on my experience. You might have a different experience with Google Analytics and I hope this helps you some way.
